Rules and Regulations

RECORDED FESTIVAL GUIDELINES
All entries for the 2021 Music Scarborough festival will be recorded - participants will be emailed a link to submit recordings after registering, and they will be due April 18 at midnight. The recording guidelines will function as rules for this year's festival. 

MANAGEMENT
1. The Festival proceedings shall be under the management of the Wishing Well Lions Club Music Festival Committee.

1a. All rules are subject to change

2. All matters not dealt with in these rules shall be referred to the Music Festival Committee, whose decisions on such matters shall be final and binding on all concerned.

ELIGIBILITY
3. No age limits will be imposed.

4. All competitions shall be open to amateurs only, unless otherwise stated. An amateur is one whose principal means of livelihood is not obtained from the profession of music. 

5. Students studying with one adjudicator during the Festival year will be assigned to another adjudicator. 

TEST PIECES
6. Pieces for all classes must be chosen from the current Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) syllabus 2015. Any entry that is not eligible for the class or any pieces that are not fully described on the entry form, may be disqualified.

6a. Participants must perform the piece or pieces as described on the form. No changes will be permitted once the form has been submitted.

7. Memorization of the piece is expected. Those playing with music MAY be penalized at the discretion of the adjudicator.  Contestants must supply own page-turner, if needed.  

8. Participants may perform as many movements of a piece as they want. 


ENTRIES
11. Entries must be received by March 24. All entries received after that date will be  disqualified. There will be no refunds.  No receipt for fees will be issued.

12. No special scheduling will be considered.

13. Contestants may enter only once in each class. 

14.. Contestants may enter as many different classes as they wish.    

15. The Festival Committee reserves the right to refuse any entry.

16. Classes may be combined at the discretion of the Festival Committee. 

17. Classes with less than 3 people MAY be cancelled at the festival’s discretion. 

18. The Adjudicator may, at his/her discretion, stop a performance when his/her judgement has been finalized.

19. No complaints about the final results will be entertained. 

20. Parents, teachers and contestants are not permitted to converse with the Adjudicator.

21. No recorders or cameras, including video will be allowed at the competition. No one shall record the festival livestream. 

22. All cell phones and other devices must be completely  turned off  during the competition. 

23. Consuming food or drink is forbidden inside the festival venue.

PROVINCIALS
24. The top three candidates in each grade who declare their interest on the registration form will be nominated to the OMFA Provincial Championships. 

AWARDS 
25. Marks will be assigned and contestants will receive adjudication. Certificates will be issued to every participant.  Medals will be awarded to first place winners who receive a grade of 85% and above. Scholarships and trophies may be awarded at the festival committee’s discretion.
